Database Administrator (Microsoft SQL Server)

THE ROLE

Own SQL Server health, performance, and recoverability across the enterprise. The database environment is primarily on-premises, with a growing Azure SQL Managed Instance footprint. Work alongside one other DBA, the infrastructure team, and application owners to keep manufacturing systems fast and reliable.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Administer approximately 60 SQL Server 2019/2022 instances, including Always On availability groups, backups, restores, and patching.
• Monitor and tune indexes, query plans, wait statistics, tempdb configuration, and resource governance.
• Design and test backup and disaster-recovery procedures. Verify restore capability quarterly and document recovery time objectives.
• Manage database logins, roles, encryption, auditing, and access reviews for SOX-relevant systems, including TDE and Always Encrypted.
• Support application teams with schema reviews, deployment scripts, and production troubleshooting.
• Plan and execute upgrades, consolidations, and migrations to Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Automate routine maintenance with PowerShell and T-SQL. Maintain monitoring and alerting in SolarWinds DPA and SQL Sentry.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Required

• 4–7 years of hands-on SQL Server administration in a production environment.
• Strong T-SQL skills and demonstrated performance-tuning experience.
• Experience with Always On availability groups, failover clustering, or log shipping.
• Proficiency with PowerShell for automation.
• Solid understanding of backup/recovery strategies and Windows Server fundamentals.
• Ability to work on-site in Rockford, IL, and participate in an on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O or another ERP database.
• Exposure to Azure SQL Managed Instance or Azure SQL Database.
• Familiarity with SSIS/SSRS and data-warehouse workloads.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
• Experience in a manufacturing or 24x7 operational environment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base range: $105,000 – $130,000 base per year

Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and location.

Bonus / commission: Discretionary annual profit-sharing contribution.

HOW WE WORK

• Shared on-call coverage is one week in three, supporting 24x7 plant operations.
