Junior Cloud Engineer (AWS)

THE ROLE

Join a cloud engineering team responsible for the AWS landing zone, shared networking, and infrastructure-as-code pipelines. Provision and maintain production infrastructure under the guidance of senior engineers in a hands-on learning role. Grow into independent ownership of services within 12–18 months.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Build and maintain AWS infrastructure, including VPCs, EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and Lambda, using team-maintained Terraform modules.
• Respond to tier-2 infrastructure tickets and join a supported on-call rotation after the first 90 days.
• Write and review infrastructure pull requests, following branching, tagging, and change-management standards.
• Monitor cost and utilization dashboards, flag anomalies, and propose right-sizing changes.
• Document runbooks, architecture decisions, and operational procedures in Confluence.
• Assist with migration cutovers, including pre-flight checks, DNS changes, and post-migration validation.
• Apply HIPAA-consistent security baselines, including encryption at rest, least-privilege IAM, and patching.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Required

• 1–3 years in systems administration, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure, or a relevant degree plus internship experience.
• Working knowledge of at least one public cloud, including compute, storage, networking, and IAM fundamentals. AWS is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Linux administration and shell scripting.
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or CloudFormation, and Git-based workflows.
• Ability to work on-site in Portland three days per week.

Nice to have

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect – Associate.
• Basic Python scripting for automation.
• Experience in healthcare, financial services, or another regulated environment.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base range: $85,000 – $105,000 base per year

Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and location.
